How to Choose the Best Landscaping Company in Baton Rouge
Every company on the first page of Google says it is the best. Here are seven things you can actually check before you hand anyone a deposit, and where we stand on each.
- 01
Ask for the license number
Louisiana requires a state license for irrigation installation and for plant bed work. Most mowing crews do not carry one, and you can check any contractor in the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry business search.
Where we stand
Hernandez Lawnscape holds irrigation contractor license IC #0866 and landscape horticulturist license LH #4774.
- 02
Ask what happens to the water
A landscape that floods is not finished. If a company plans beds and sod without asking where your yard holds water after rain, the plan will fail in the first wet spring.
Where we stand
Every Hernandez assessment starts with one question: where is the last spot to dry? Grade and drainage come before anything decorative.
- 03
Get an itemized quote
A single lump-sum number hides plant markups. Line items let you compare quotes honestly and drop what you do not need.
Where we stand
Our quotes are itemized and emailed, with a $50 assessment credited to the job.
- 04
Ask who draws the plan and who builds it
When a designer hands a drawing to a separate crew, details get lost. When the plan and the build come from the same hands, they do not.
Where we stand
Gerardo draws larger renovations himself in Morpholio Trace and his crew builds them.
- 05
Ask what is warrantied
A company that promises to guarantee living plants is promising something no one can control. A company that warranties nothing is not standing behind its work.
Where we stand
Drainage, irrigation and artificial turf are warrantied. Plants are not, and we say so.
- 06
Read the recent reviews, not the star count
Look for the specifics: did the crew show up, did they clean up, did the drainage work in the next storm.
Where we stand
4.9 stars on 191 Google reviews and a BBB A+, with reviews that name the storm the drain survived.
- 07
Ask what they will not do
A company that says it does everything usually subcontracts the parts it does not. A company that names its limits is telling you the truth about the rest.
Where we stand
We do not do one-time mowing, fertilization programs or concrete. We say so, and we point you to someone licensed for it.
Check number one, done for you
