Landscape Design in Baton Rouge

The plan and the build come from the same set of hands. Gerardo draws each design himself, so what is on the page is what the crew installs.

  1. 01

    Grade and drainage first

A landscape that floods is not finished. Water leaves the plan before plants enter it.

  2. 02

    Irrigation zoned to the plan

Beds and lawn on separate zones so nothing is over- or under-watered.

  3. 03

    Sod, beds, rock and edging

Plants chosen for the site, priced as line items, no markup games.

  4. 04

    Lighting as the finish

Low-voltage lighting on the features worth seeing at night.

Landscape Design in Baton Rouge, Drawn by the Person Who Builds It

Most landscape designs are handed from a designer to a crew that never met the homeowner. Ours are not. Gerardo Hernandez draws the design himself, in Morpholio Trace, after walking your yard with you. Then his crew builds it. The plan and the finished yard come from the same set of hands, so nothing is lost in between.

On larger renovations the design is included in the project. For homeowners who want a plan before they commit to a build, we quote the design on its own.

How the Design Process Works

  1. A walk through the yard. We find the low spots, note the sun and shade through the day, and listen to what you want the yard to do: entertain, contain a dog, hide a fence, stop flooding.
  2. A drawn plan showing beds, sod, drainage runs, irrigation zones, rock, edging and lighting.
  3. An itemized quote that matches the drawing line by line, so you can build it in phases if you want to.
  4. Revisions until it is right. It is your yard.

What Makes a Design Work in Baton Rouge

Heat, humidity, heavy soil and 60 inches of rain a year. A design that ignores those looks good on paper and fails in a summer. Ours start with where the water goes, then choose plants that live here: azaleas and camellias in the shade, crape myrtles and roses in the sun, liriope and mondo grass for edges, St. Augustine or Zoysia for the lawn. Everything sized for what it will look like in year two, not on the day it is planted.

Working With the Best Materials for the Site

Decorative rock where mulch would wash out. Steel edging where a clean line matters. Pine straw under trees that drop needles anyway. Low-voltage lighting on the features worth seeing at night. We specify what fits the site and the budget, and we tell you where spending more will show and where it will not.

From Design to Built Yard

Once the design is approved, the same crew that will maintain the yard builds it: grade and drainage first, irrigation second, then sod, beds, rock, edging and lighting. Work usually starts within two weeks of accepting the quote, except during the spring rush.
