Mulching Services in Baton Rouge

Fresh mulch is the fastest way to make a bed look finished, and the right depth is the difference between holding moisture and rotting stems.

Mulching Services in Baton Rouge

Fresh mulch is the fastest way to make a landscape look finished, and it is doing real work underneath: holding moisture through a Baton Rouge summer, keeping the soil cooler, smothering weeds before they start and slowly feeding the bed as it breaks down. We mulch as part of cleanups, renovations and year-round plans.

Types of Mulch We Install

  • Hardwood and dyed mulch for beds along the house, where a clean dark or red bed sets off the plants and the brick.
  • Pine straw under pines, oaks and in large tree rings, where it stays put and looks natural.
  • Decorative rock, white or gray, around palms, sago and along driveways where mulch would wash out.

When to Apply Mulch

A full refresh in spring before the heat arrives, and a top-up in fall after the leaves are cleaned up. Mulch settles and fades; two to three inches is right, and more than that smothers the roots. We pull it back from trunks and stems so nothing rots.

Bed Preparation Comes First

Mulch on top of weeds is a weed bed in a month. Every mulching visit starts with weeding the bed, recutting the edge and checking that the bed still drains. Where a bed sits in a low spot we fix the drainage before we cover it, because mulch that stays wet is a problem, not a finish.

Mulching on a Plan

Mulch and pine straw refreshes are quoted separately from the weekly plan, once a year or twice depending on the beds. Because the crew is in the yard every week they know when a bed has thinned, and the refresh goes on the schedule before it shows from the street.

From our jobs

  • A curved brick-bordered bed with dark river rock, ornamental grasses and a crape myrtle
  • A white decorative rock bed with black edging and a sago palm centerpiece
  • A freshly mulched bed of elephant ears along the front of a brick home
