Pricing guide

What Drainage Costs in Baton Rouge

Two fifty-foot drains can cost very different amounts. This page explains what actually moves the price, so the itemized quote makes sense when it arrives.

What moves the price

Five situations we quote every week

We do not publish a flat per-foot price because the yard sets it, not the tape measure. Here is what we look at on each kind of job.

SituationWhat drives the priceHow we approach it
Downspout tie-in to the streetRun length, whether the sidewalk or driveway has to be crossed, the discharge pointSolid pipe from the downspouts to a pop-up or curb outlet at a steady fall
Side-yard French drainLength of the trench, how much roof water lands in the strip, restoring the sod afterwardPerforated pipe in washed gravel wrapped in filter fabric, sloped to the lowest available exit
Backyard that holds water for daysHow far the low spot sits from a discharge point, pipe diameter (four versus six inch), catch basinsStart at the last spot to dry, trench toward the exit, gravity first
Grading fix after a neighbor builtHow much soil moves, whether beds and sod are rebuilt, any retained water along the fenceRegrade so the yard falls away from the slab, then a drain where the grade alone cannot finish the job
Sump pump systemOnly when there is no natural slope; pit, pump, power, discharge lineLast resort. If gravity can work we will say so, because pumps stop when the power does

Where the money goes

Depth, exit and restoration

A pipe that holds a 2 percent fall over a long run has to start deep. The exit sets how deep. Restoring sod, crossing a drive or tying in downspouts are the other lines on the quote.

Questions

Drainage pricing questions

Why do you not publish a flat price for a French drain?
Because the price is set by the yard, not by the foot. Two fifty-foot drains can cost very different amounts depending on where the water can exit, how deep the pipe has to run to hold a 2 percent fall, and whether we are crossing a driveway or restoring a lawn afterward. The itemized quote shows every line.
Does the $50 assessment count toward the job?
Yes. The on-site assessment fee is credited toward the installation when you go ahead.
Do I need a pump?
Usually not. A pump is only necessary when there is no natural slope from the low spot to a discharge point such as the street or a ditch. If gravity can do the job we tell you so, because a pump costs more and stops working in a power outage.
Is drainage work warrantied?
Yes. Drainage, irrigation and artificial turf are the three things we warranty, because we control every part of the installation.
Can drainage be combined with sod or landscaping?
It should be. Most of our renovations start with grade and drainage, then irrigation, then sod and beds. Doing it in that order once is cheaper than doing the landscape twice.
