Mowing is the visible part of a plan. Height, blade sharpness and a clean edge are what separate a lawn that is cut from a lawn that is kept. We mow as part of year-round weekly and biweekly plans across Baton Rouge and Livingston Parish. We do not do one-time cuts, and this page explains why.

The Importance of Proper Lawn Mowing

Every grass has a height it wants. St. Augustine likes to stay tall, three to four inches, so it shades its own soil. Zoysia and Bermuda are cut lower. Centipede sits in between. Cut any of them too short and the soil bakes, the roots weaken and weeds move in. Cut with a dull blade and the tips tear and brown. Our mowers are set for your grass and the blades are sharpened on a schedule.

What a Mowing Visit Includes

• Mowing at the right height, in alternating directions so the grass stands up straight and the stripes look intentional.
• Edging every drive, walk and curb with a stick edger, not a string trimmer.
• String trimming around beds, trees, fences and posts.
• Blowing clippings off the hard surfaces and out of the beds.
• Hard-surface weed control in cracks and joints.

Seasonal Mowing Schedules

On the weekly plan we cut every week from April through October, when the grass is growing hard, and every other week from November through March. On a plan the schedule shifts with the season without you calling to change it.

Why Not One-Time Mowing

A single cut on a lawn that has not been kept is a scalping, and it looks worse a week later than the day we left. Lawns look good because they are cut at the same height on a steady rhythm, and that only happens on a plan. If the yard has gotten away from you, a one-time cleanup is the way in, and the plan starts after.
