Front Yard Sod Replacement on a Brick Ranch in Baton Rouge

A patchy, weed-choked front lawn stripped to soil, regraded and re-sodded in about a week, with new beds along the porch.

The problem

  • The old lawn had thinned to bare dirt and weeds down both sides of the walk.
  • A lawn this far gone cannot be saved by treatment; it has to come out.
  • The new grass had to establish before the summer heat.

What we built

  1. Step 1

Stripped the old turf and hauled it off (truck and trailer in the drone shots).

  2. Step 2

Regraded the front yard so water leaves the slab instead of sitting against it.

  3. Step 3

Laid new sod both sides of the front walk and refreshed the foundation beds.

The before photo from the street is the honest version of a lot of Baton Rouge front yards: a walk lined with dead patches and the kind of weeds that only grow where the grass has quit. No amount of treatment brings that back, and Hernandez Lawnscape does not sell treatment programs anyway. The fix is grade and sod.

The crew stripped the yard to soil with a compact loader, loaded the old turf onto the trailer, and regraded so the yard falls away from the house. New sod went down in full rolls, tight seams, both sides of the walk. Ten days later the drone shows a lawn that reads as one piece from the street.

New sod gets one instruction: water every day for the first two weeks, then watch the weather.
