French Drain Rescue in Baton Rouge: Trenched, Piped and Restored

Side yards that held water for days after rain, trenched, piped at a 2 percent fall and restored so the lawn shows no scar.

The problem

  • Side yards between houses are the classic Baton Rouge low spot: two roofs drain into one strip of grass.
  • Gutters dumping at the foundation with nowhere to go.
  • Homeowners who had already been quoted a pump they did not need.

What we built

  1. Step 1

Started at the last spot to dry and trenched toward the street.

  2. Step 2

Six-inch PVC where the roof volume called for it, perforated pipe with gravel and filter fabric where the lawn itself was the problem.

  3. Step 3

Tied the downspouts into the line and put the sod back over the trench.

The three-panel photo is the whole method in one frame: the trench dug beside the HVAC pad, the pipe laid in at a steady fall, and the lawn restored so you cannot tell where the crew was. Gravity does the work. No pump to fail when the power goes out.

The side-yard before-and-after tells the other half of the story. Standing water and broken flagstones became gravel drainage with stepping stones. That yard now dries in hours, not days.

The result

Drag the handle to compare. Same yard, same angle.

We had a downpour this morning and it worked like a charm.

From the crew’s phones and the drone

  • Before and after of a waterlogged side yard with broken flagstones, rebuilt with gravel drainage and stepping stones
  • A French drain trench filled with washed gravel along a wooden privacy fence
  • A trench cut through a front lawn with sod strips peeled back and corrugated drain pipe laid out
